Ryu Hong-lim is the President of Seoul National University. He is working to establish a research innovation platform that integrates industry, academia, and government, and to create new models of social contribution.
Born on December 12, 1961, in Cheongju, Chungbuk, Ryu graduated from Cheongju High School and then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in political science from Seoul National University. He received his master's degree in political science from Seoul National University Graduate School.
Ryu pursued further studies in the United States, obtaining his Ph.D. in Western Political Thought and Contemporary Political Thought from Rutgers University.
Since 1995, Ryu has been a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. He has served in various capacities, including editor of the university's newspaper, director of the archives, and dean of the College of Social Sciences. In 2023, he was elected President of the university.
Ryu has also been a visiting scholar and visiting professor at Harvard University's Yenching Institute and Rutgers University. Additionally, he has served as president of the Korean Association for Political Thought.
