Park Chan-koo is chairman of the Kumho Petrochemical Group. He also serves as co-CEO of Kumho Mitsui Chemicals.
He is pursuing a "dig one well" strategy that focuses on developing and producing highly profitable, high value-added chemical products.
He was born on August 13, 1948, in Gwangju as the fourth son of Park In-chon, founder of the Kumho Asiana Group.
He graduated from Gwangju Jeil High School and the Department of Statistics at the University of Iowa.
After joining Korea Synthetic Rubber (now Kumho Petrochemical), he worked at Kumho Industrial and Kumho Engineering & Construction, and was appointed CEO of Kumho Petrochemical when Kumho Chemical and Korea Synthetic Rubber merged.
After serving as chairman of the Kumho Asiana Group’s chemical division, he became chairman and CEO of Kumho Petrochemical.
As he led Kumho Petrochemical’s separation from the Kumho Asiana Group, he engaged in a long legal dispute with his older brother, Park Sam-koo, the former chairman of the Kumho Asiana Group.
He stepped down as CEO of Kumho Petrochemical in 2021 and became the group’s honorary chairman in 2023, but returned five months later as co-CEO of the affiliate, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals.
True to his training in statistics, he is meticulous in everything. He places a strong emphasis on communicating with employees.
