He was born on January 28, 1961, in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province.

After graduating from Jangheung High School and majoring in Naval Architecture at Inha University, he joined Hyundai Heavy Industries. He worked in production management before moving to Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

At Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, he became CEO for the first time in his career and later returned to Hyundai Heavy Industries to serve as CEO of the Shipbuilding and Offshore Business. In October 2021, he was appointed CEO of Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Lee is considered a field expert with extensive experience in the production sector.
