According to the University Education Research Institute's nationwide survey of 277 private universities and colleges in November 2022, Namseoul University was identified as the university where executives' relatives work the most, totaling 12. The survey showed that Namseoul University had the highest number of such cases among all four-year private universities and colleges. Songwon University followed with 10, and Hansung University with 9. Additionally, Dongduk Women's University had 8, Geonyang University and Inje University had 7 each. Of the 169 institutions that disclosed information on executives' relatives among the surveyed 277 universities, 66.3% were found to have hired relatives as staff. Some university corporations, including Songkang Foundation of Gwangju Women's University, Deokseong Foundation of Deoksung Women's University, Hamju Foundation of Hansung University, Jeheon Foundation of Daegu University of Korean Medicine, and Seongsim Foundation of Yeungnam University, were found to have omitted relatives as staff. Since March 2022, private universities are required to publicly disclose on their websites executives and relatives who are professors or staff members under Article 72-3 of the Private School Act. Violations or false disclosures incur a fine of KRW 5 million. The disclosure system for executives' relatives as staff of university corporations was introduced as a measure to structurally prevent irregularities and corruption in private universities.
