Life Summary
Kim Young-tae is the Director of Seoul National University Hospital.

He is dedicated to elevating education, research, and medical services to a world-class level while fulfilling the responsibilities of public healthcare as a national central hospital.

He was born on November 4, 1963, in Seoul.

In 1988, he graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine. He obtained his master's degree and Ph.D. in medicine from Seoul National University Graduate School.

After completing his internship and residency at Seoul National University Hospital, he became an assistant professor in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1996 and has since been serving as a professor.

He completed his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the United States and has served as the Director of the Lung Cancer Center and the Head of the Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit at Seoul National University Hospital.

He was one of the candidates recommended by the Seoul National University Hospital board for the director position, after President Yoon Suk-yeol rejected the initial two nominees.

Together with the research team from Seoul National University College of Medicine, he was the first in the world to identify the gene (KIF5B-RET fusion gene) that causes lung cancer.

He successfully performed the first lung transplant surgery in Korea on a child under two years old.

Emphasizing horizontal relationships among staff, he is seeking changes in the authoritative decision-making structure of Seoul National University Hospital.
