He was born on March 14, 1967, in Seoul.

After graduating from Seoul National University with a degree in Electronic Engineering and earning a master's degree in Electronic Engineering from the same university, he began a doctoral program but did not complete it.

He participated in the development of 'Hangul Word Processor' and founded Hanmesoft, developing 'Hanme Typing Tutor' for DOS, working actively as a software developer.

After working at Hyundai Electronics, he founded NCSoft in 1997 with 16 colleagues and a capital of KRW 100 million (US$ 72,110).

He achieved great success with the 'Lineage' IP games.

By swiftly adapting to the mobile game trend with Lineage M, Lineage 2M, and Lineage W, he has generated enormous profits.

Since 2020, as the dependency on Lineage became excessively high, he ventured into new IPs and new businesses, but did not achieve significant results.

In 2023, he launched the Change Management Committee and transitioned to a co-CEO and three CBOs (Chief Business Officers) system in an effort to revive NCSoft as a prestigious game company.
