John Rim is the President and CEO of Samsung Biologics and also serves as Chairman of the Board.

He was born in October 1961 in South Korea and later emigrated to the United States, where he became a U.S. citizen.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University, a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, and completed his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Rim began his career at the consulting firm Booz & Company, then served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the U.S. subsidiary of the Japanese pharmaceutical company Yamanouchi.

He later held CFO positions at U.S. biotechnology company Genentech and the U.S. subsidiary of global pharmaceutical company Roche.

After joining Samsung Biologics, he served as Executive Vice President overseeing the company’s third plant and as Head of Manufacturing Center before being appointed President and CEO in 2021.

He is currently focusing on expanding biopharmaceutical production capacity with the goal of making Samsung Biologics the world’s No. 1 contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) by 2030.
