Han Dong-hoon is the leader of the People Power Party.
He must lead the ruling People Power Party effectively to contribute to the success of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.
Immediately, he faces the task of resolving internal conflicts within the party that emerged around the People Power Party convention held on July 23, 2024.
He was born on April 9, 1973, in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
He graduated from Hyundai High School in Seoul and Seoul National University School of Law.
After completing an LL.M. program at Columbia Law School in the United States, he obtained a New York State attorney license.
He passed the 37th bar exam and completed the 27th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute before starting his career as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
He served as the Director of Policy Planning at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, the inaugural head of the Fair Trade and Tax Investigation Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and the leader of the 2nd team of the Special Investigation Division for Corruption Crimes under the Prosecutor General's office.
During the Moon Jae-in administration, he worked under Yoon Suk-yeol, then the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, as the 3rd Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, mainly investigating the corruption of the previous government. After Yoon was appointed Prosecutor General, Han was promoted to Chief Prosecutor and led the Anti-Corruption and Strong Crimes Division (formerly the Central Investigation Division), overseeing the investigation of the family of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk.
Under Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, he was effectively demoted to Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office. When the 'Channel A journalist-prosecutor collusion case' emerged, he moved to positions as a researcher at the Legal Research and Training Institute and then as the Deputy Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
He ended his public service career as the first Minister of Justice under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration and entered politics as the Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee of the People Power Party.
As a specialist in special investigations, he worked closely with President Yoon Suk-yeol in the prosecution, becoming one of Yoon's closest associates. At one point, he was even referred to as the 'Little President.'
As the Chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, he led the People Power Party in the April 10 general election but resigned after securing only 108 seats. However, he made a spectacular comeback by running again in the July 23 party convention of the same year and being elected as the party leader.
