Since acquiring the global silicone company Momentive, he has focused on developing the silicone business as a future growth engine for KCC.
He has worked hard on the development of building materials such as paints, glass, and insulation, establishing KCC as the top building materials company in South Korea.
He was born on August 5, 1960, in Seoul, as the eldest son of Chung Sang-young, Honorary Chairman of KCC. Chung Sang-young is the youngest brother of Chung Ju-yung, the Honorary Chairman of the Hyundai Group.
Chung Mong-jin graduated from Yongsan High School in Seoul and earned a degree in Business Administration from Korea University. He later received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from George Washington University in the United States.
He joined Koryo Chemical, the predecessor of KCC, as a director and became the Group’s Chairman after just nine years. He has been leading KCC and its affiliates for 20 years.
Chung is praised for his exceptional foreign language skills and keen investment acumen.
He is known for his cautious approach to management, stating, “I never venture into fields I don’t know, and it typically takes 5 to 7 years of consideration before entering a new business.”
