He graduated from Daewon Foreign Language High School in Seoul and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University in the United States. He later received both his master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Brown University.

Before joining Hyundai Capital, Chung spent 25 years at the global financial investment firm Goldman Sachs, where he established himself as an expert in global finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

He began his career at Goldman Sachs’ Seoul branch and later served as Executive Director at the Hong Kong office, Head of Investment Banking at the Seoul branch, and ultimately the Representative of Goldman Sachs Korea.

Chung has been serving as the CEO of Hyundai Capital since June 2024.

He is the elder brother of Chung Hyung-kwon, CEO of Gmarket.
